A summary is a short piece that explains a plot, where as a literary analysis is a piece in which doesn’t just explain the plot but it also argues the ideas. A summary tells about the over all story and its characters without using great detail. It simply get the basics of what the story is about through to the reader. Summaries are not meant to be very long. Short, sweet and to the point is exactly what makes it. If it is too long it will seem more like a re-wright of the plot which defeats the point of a summary. It is not a review and it doesn’t contain your opinion or the authors opinions.
When it coms to literary analysis it is very different is suttle ways. Instead of simply going over the story and missing the smaller detail when doing an analysis the details are what matter the most. You break the story down into the components and elements tat best support the argument you are defending. You take details or (evidence) from the text that will help support your point. In a summary paraphrasing and quotes are the last things you want to use but in a literary analysis its perfect. You have to make sure that your aren’t supporting an idea off of your own thoughts but only off of the support given to you within the text. You should frequently go back and refer to specific passages. You have to focus on the small things that in the end affect the story as a whole. Literary analysis helps you to better understand the story and all its components. Your analysis will contain an argument that will discuss either what the author succeeded in or what they failed to do within the piece.
