Swifts modest
proposal, written in 1729, is one in which many different types of literary
methods are used. From irony, to grotesque, to the main method, satire. Satire
is a form in which comedy takes the lead role. It is a way of talking about a
serious subject but in a joking matter to keep the tension levels from rising.
This is exactly what swift was doing when he wrote the modest proposal, which
is what makes satire such a perfect tool.
